KR HALL BASH!

It was a typical Thursday on August 15. We woke up, brushed our teeth and went to class. But the typical part ends there, for August 15 was Kent Ridge Hall’s Annual Hall Bash, held at the Forbidden City, Clarke Quay.

It was a night of pure China –chic. The residents came strolling in around 7:30 pm, clad in Imperial glam from head to toe, and readily anticipating a night of fun, pageantry and entertainment. By 8’oclock, the venue was teeming with camera flashes and sparkling teeth of residents trying to emulate the perfect pageant smile.

The night came into full swing around 8:15 pm as the pageant contestants strut their stuff down the catwalk, impeccably attired in anything but casual wear. For A block, there was Ronny and Amelia, B block with Andre and Cecilia, C block with Sean and Chun Ting, D block with Hafiz and Britney, and lastly but not the least E block with Gerald and Rachel Pang. The contestants swayed their hips into the groove as they walked onstage, much to the delight of the eager audience, each block visibly supporting their own.

The powerful voices of Oliver and Mel Chua filled the venue as they were the emcees for the night. To get everyone in party mode, games were held with each block sending two of their own onstage. The “lucky” couples had to make use of their respiratory systems and their creativity to win the challenge, of which nothing much will be said except that whipped cream, blowing, and a certain rubber was involved.

The KRockers were up next, and they hyped up the crowd with a Lady Gaga number that made the crowd gaga and aching to just dance it. As the crowd jumped up and down with the music, the pageant contestants were at the back busily preparing for their next catwalk. As the contestants emerged, now clad in gorgeous imperial clothing, the crowd went uber wild in professing their undying love and support to the pageant couples.

The highlight of the evening was the pageant games, and Rachel Pang stole the limelight when asked whether she likes it big or small. Rachel answered “I like it BIG, ‘cos I like guys with big hearts.”

Another definite crowd pleaser, KRDance grooved and popped to the music as they performed for the residents. Chong yunn and Alvan stood out with their amazing control and fantastic solos. Even Chun ting, C block pageant, danced her way to people’s favors as she amazed the crowd with her sexy dance moves.

As the pageant contestants took their last catwalk, the crowd without fail showed their support by cheering the contestants on. Hall spirit was very high, and so was everyone else. This year’s KR Hall Bash is definitely a party success that yours truly is glad she came to experience!
